Lynn Appelle is a 2002 Academy Award winner for the documentary short, Thoth, which she produced with director Sarah Kernochan. Thoth is the story of a musician who tries to heal disunity of the world through his self-expression and music. The short was invited to over thirty film festivals, aired on Cinemax and is currently available online.
Leaving New York City for the deep south, Lynn started her career in Georgia in the early ’90’s at the University of Georgia, earning a B.F.A. in Photography. Her first job had her working as a still photographer for local musicians in the college town of Athens and in Atlanta, where she freelanced for two music magazines. For several years she worked on dozens of television movies, feature films, commercials and the 1996 Olympics. In 1998 she moved back home to NYC to work in production.
She worked briefly at a New York public relations firm as an assistant on several film releases and served as media coordinator for the Barney premiere at Radio City Music Hall. Lynn continued in production on films including The Florentine, Dinner Rush, Empire, A Lot Like Love, Walking on The Sky, and The 24th Day. She has production managed/line-produced projects for the Discovery Channel, PBS, Animal Planet, USA Broadcasting, CNN and various NY companies. She also served on film juries for The Zlin International Film Festival (Czech Republic), The Trenton NJ Film Festival as well as a guest speaker at several colleges and film panels. (NYU, SVA, IFC, NYWIFT, Kodak).
Over the last few years she co-produced the film New York City Serenade, directed by actor Frank Whaley (starring Freddie Prinze Jr/Chris Klein/Jamie Sigler, 2007 Toronto film selection). She line produced the Sissy Spacek drama Lake City (directed by Perry Moore & Hunter Hill and starring, Troy Garity/Rebecca Romijn/Keith Carradine/Dave Matthews), a Tribeca FF 2008 feature selection. And the comedy Nobody starring Sam Rosen/Bonnie Sommerville/Mark Margolis in Minneapolis.
She line produced Howl, starring James Franco, David Strathairn, Jon Hamm, and Jeff Daniels. The film was in competition at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival. Howl is about Alan Ginsberg and the obscenity trial surrounding his 1956 poem with the same name. After that she line produced the films Bringing Up Bobby, with Mila Jovovich, Bill Pullman and Marcia Cross and directed by Famke Janssen, the recently released 3D thriller/comedy Hellbenders - directed by JT Petty and the drama Gimme Shelter starring Vanessa Hudgens , Rosario Dawson and Brendan Fraser. Both of these are 2013 film releases. She also line produced the doc satire, DL Hughley's The Endangered List for Comedy Central which won the Peabody Award in 2012..
Lynn has also produced the romantic comedy Premium (starring Zoe Saldana/Hill Harper/Dorian Missick, directed by Pete Chatmon). It was a 2006 Miami Intl FF selection and Urban World Honorable Mention. As well as, the comedy Slippery Slope (starring Jim True-Frost/Kelly Hutchinson/Laila Robins directed by Sarah Schenck). On Redbox is the teen-scifi-thriller Cloned : the Recreator Chronicles, directed by Gregory Orr and stars Stella Maeve (The Runaways, Golden Boy), newcomers Alexander Nifong and Jamal Mallory-McCree, and veteran actor John de Lancie.
She completed the comedy Rob the Mob, directed by Raymond De Felitta (City Island), starring Michael Pitt, Nina Arianda, Andy Garcia and Ray Romano. And is proud to have worked on the drama Still Alice, starring Julianne Moore (Academy Award winner*), Kristen Stewart and Alec Baldwin based on the acclaimed book of the same title. The film has been critically received. Out this summer is the crazy new drama called Urge, starring Pierce Brosnan, Ashley Greene and Justin Chatwin. About a new designer drug that shows all ones primal inhibitions good and yes bad, very bad.
In development is the stage musical, Petunia - A bitter love story, which played in The New York International Fringe Festival August of 2013, and continues to be developed for future performances. Winter of 2016 featured a 10 min musical version of Fictitious, a musical parody based on all things Schwarzenegger, which was at the Sound Bites 3.0 Music Festival and won best director for Jonathan Cerullo. I am also producing a small film called Dead Guy hopefully end of 2016 which is a dark comedy, so stay tuned for that.
